Victorian floods mail delivery update

Tuesday, 18 January 2011

Australia Post has confirmed that it has arrangements in place to manage the impact of the Victorian floods on mail delivery.

"With access to main arterial roads cut and further roads set to close today, mail delivery to Horsham and areas north of Bendigo will be affected, but Australia Post has made contingency plans to minimise delays," said Australia Post spokesperson Sarah Gordon.

Australia Post is using an alternative route to ensure all mail transported via road from Melbourne to Adelaide is not affected by the closure of the Western Highway at Horsham.

With latest emergency updates indicating that the road to Kerang will close this afternoon, Australia Post has made arrangements to collect mail from Robinvale, Manangatang, Swan Hill and Kerang ahead of the closure, so that outgoing mail from these towns is not affected.

"Our posties, mail sorters, contractors and staff at our outlets are working tirelessly to maintain normal mail services and minimise delays where the flooding has resulted in road closures," said Ms Gordon

"The safety of our people is paramount, and delivery will be made to all areas that local emergency services advise it is safe to do so."

In instances where mail delivery is not possible, we are holding mail at post offices and delivery facilities.

We're encouraging customers to visit auspost.com.au for updates or ring 13 13 18 if they seek urgent advice about their mail.
