International collaboration
Internationally, postal corporations are working together to reduce their impact on climate change.
The International Postal Corporation (IPC) is an industry body focused on improving the postal service, promoting cooperation between postal and other organisations, and providing informed analysis on the postal and adjacent markets.
The IPC launched an Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System (EMMS) in May 2008. The EMMS consists of an interactive questionnaire that measures a postal corporation's carbon performance in ten key areas:
- principles
- management and strategy
- policy and procedure
- employee engagement
- activity
- measurement and verification
- targets
- performance
- disclosure - reporting
- value chain management
The aim of the EMMS is to:
- provide a common carbon measurement and reporting framework for the global postal industry
- build on existing systems and capabilities
- promote continuous improvement and peer learning
- demonstrate adherence to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. rel="nofollow"
We took part in the pilot EMMS in 2008 and completed the 2009 program. We will continue to report to the IPC annually to encourage benchmarking and collaboration within the industry.
