Australia Post is committed to monitoring its energy use and reducing energy consumption where possible. The following key strategies will help achieve this.

Operational

  • Ensure energy efficiency becomes standard business practice for all staff.
  • Ensure energy efficiency is a part of the operating and maintenance procedures for all equipment.
  • Regularly review energy practices across the fleet and at facility level to identify opportunities to introduce energy efficiency measures.

Monitoring

  • Maintain an effective energy monitoring system.
  • Develop a strategy for providing all facilities with energy consumption data.
  • Continually review strategies to improve data monitoring.

Awareness

  • Develop communication strategies to raise staff awareness of energy efficiency.
  • Encourage staff to report inefficient energy practices.
  • Ensure energy consumption data is available to management and staff to help them monitor and manage their energy use.
  • Provide government and public reports on energy efficiency as required.
  • Where practicable, develop staff incentive schemes to encourage active involvement in energy reduction programs and practices.

Training

  • Ensure staff members are appropriately trained to practice energy efficiency.
  • Ensure staff and contractors are suitably trained to manage equipment.

Future focus

  • Ensure energy efficient features are incorporated into the design of new and refurbished buildings and building fit outs.
  • Ensure energy efficiency is a consideration in the purchase of goods and services.
  • Reduce reliance on non-sustainable energy practices and encourage more sustainable energy practices.
  • Investigate opportunities to incorporate renewable energy into our operations.
