Australia Post is celebrating the diversity of tourist Australia with the release of two stamp issues today titled ‘Tourist Precincts’ and ‘Waterfalls Australia’.
Seven tourist destinations from Australia’s six states are featured on the seven stamp ‘Tourist Precincts’ issue, showcasing a range of popular and vibrant destinations much loved by domestic and international tourists alike. The seven areas featured are Luna Park Melbourne; South Bank, Brisbane; The Rocks, Sydney; Fishermans Wharf, Fremantle; Foreshore, Cairns; Salamanca Place, Hobart; and Glenelg, Adelaide.
The ‘Waterfalls Australia’ stamp issue meanwhile highlights some of natural Australia’s truly hidden gems – our pristine and picturesque waterfalls. Photographic images of four of Australia’s most stunning waterfalls from each corner of the continent are featured on this four stamp issue – Russell Falls, Tasmania; Jim Jim Falls, Northern Territory; Spa Pool, Hamersley Gorge, Western Australia; and MacKenzie Falls, Victoria.
“Australia’s waterfalls often get overlooked as one of our natural wonders, but they are stunning and are truly hidden gems of our landscape, and that is why we wanted to highlight them with the waterfalls Australia stamp issue” said Mr Noel Leahy, Group Manager Philatelic, Australia Post.
“Whereas our waterfalls are off the beaten track, Australia’s major cities offer tourists a large amount of choice. The seven areas selected represent the many faces of Australia and Australian life that appeal to visitors to our major cities – from fresh food markets, to historic landmarks, theme parks, shopping precincts, dining districts, the arts and scenic coastline.”
‘Tourist Precincts’ and ‘Waterfalls Australia’ stamp products are available from Monday, 8 September from all participating Australia Post outlets around Australia, via mail order on 1800 331 794 or online for our international customers at www.auspost.com.au/stamps. They will be the first stamps to feature the 55 cent denomination.
