Sending, Receiving & Cancelling International Money Orders

 

To send an IMO from Australia to China

  • Visit a participating Australia Post outlet to complete an IMO 'Send money order' form.
  • Nominate for the money transfer to be paid out in cash at a participating China Post outlet.
  • Provide two forms of acceptable identity documents.
  • Payment for the IMO can be made either by cash or eftPOS (credit card and cheque are not accepted).

 

To send an IMO from China

If you wish to collect your funds in person at an Australia Post outlet you will need to:

  • obtain from your sender the 26-digit money order identifier which starts with "J20A..."
  • visit a participating Australia Post outlet to complete a 'Receive money order' form.
  • provide two forms of acceptable identity documents together with the form to the counter staff.
  • upon satisfactory review and sighting of your identification, our staff will pay you the amount transferred in cash (AUD).

 

To request a cancellation of an IMO

  • Only the sender is authorised to request the cancellation of a money order.
  • If you are the sender of an IMO, ensure that you retain a copy of your 'Send Money Order' form and the original receipt.
  • To cancel, visit a participating Australia Post outlet to complete and submit a 'Cancellation Form'.
  • Indicate on the form your preferred refund payment method by cheque or direct deposit into the sender’s nominated bank account.
  • Provide two forms of acceptable identity documents.
  • Upon satisfactory verification of your details, Australia Post staff will process your request. Please note that a refund will not be paid at the time.
  • Your requested refund will only be made if the money has not be cashed or redeemed at the destination country.
  • A request for refund will usually be processed within five business days. This does not include the bank clearance times for funds.
  • The refund will be paid in Australian dollars, less any applicable cancellation fees.
