Identity Fraud is a very serious issue in the community and is on the increase. Police are able to say that theft of mail after it has been delivered is one potential source of personal data that may be used by the perpetrators of this crime.
Australia Post has conducted awareness campaigns across the country, in conjunction with the police, to bring this issue to the attention of the community. We have also worked with Government agencies and support brochure on how to minimise the risk of identity theft called “When bad things happen to your good name”.and “When bad things happen to your business name”.
The Australian Government also released “A kit to prevent and respond to identity theft” which is particularly helpful in addressing this problem.
